Porcelain Challenge

Battle of the Clays
?   ? ? ? ?

presented by Tisha Ritter of TIBs

Over the years many people have asked "What is the difference in the differnt brands of slip?".
Most people that answered based their answers on their own personal experience or opinions
and usually really had no idea why or what the difference really was.  Years ago I was in a shop
in Dallas and I heard a lady ask the shop owner what the difference was between the two brands
of slip she carried,  the owner of the shop immediately answered "Oh, about two dollars a gallon."
That answer has stuck with me for years but it not really a good answer.  Tish Ritter has decided
to conduct a little test and she has named it "The Porcelain Challenge".  Several of the dealers
that will attend the show have volunteered, under duress from Tish, to bring similar heads poured
in their chosen slip.  The test and the results should be interesting.  We will post the results
after the test so be certain to check back.

Friday, March 28, 2008, the major porcelain brands available in the USA
will be represented at the Fun and Friends Doll Show in DeKalb, Texas.
A sample doll head will be poured in white from each of the major
porcelain slips.  Each head will then be cleaned with the TIBs Technique
at the T & D Porcelain Dolls and Supplies booth.
These heads will then be fired Friday night to bisque and displayed
Saturday for examination.
Be sure and stop by the T & D booth on Saturday to see how your favorite
stacks up against the others.
